Our
History
Stone Bluff Cellars Winery was a vision of
Bob and Sandy McBratney soon after they purchased
their picturesque property in 1994. Quickly
they decided to create a legacy for future generations.
What better way to share the beauty of the land
and its surroundings than to create a place
where friends-old and new- could gather, relax
and enjoy the Oklahoma countryside.
While Sandy began designing and rebuilding
the small farmhouse that sat atop the grassy
knoll surrounded by hay meadows and ponds, Bob
continued to commute to his ophthalmology practice
in Tulsa. Working on the farm as time and his
medical practice allowed, Bob discovered the
T.V. Munson Viticulture and Enology Center in
Denison, Texas. Bob’s long-standing interest
in grapes and wine led him to investigate whether
grapes would grow well on the property as he
supposed they would. He began commuting to Texas
on weekends each semester, taking the necessary
courses to allow their dream to become a reality.
Well-equipped with a degree in home economics,
experience in teaching, and 31 years of on-the-job
training providing gourmet meals for her family,
Sandy was willing and ready for her part in
the dream.
The first phase of the vineyard was planted
in 1997. In 1999 more vineyard was added. By
July 2000, Bob closed his practice and left
medicine to devote his full energy to the family
quest. Stone Bluff Cellars hosted their grand
opening for the winery on September 30, 2000.
Our pledge is to add to the vineyards and winery
as the decades unfold, providing an enhanced
selection of wines. As newer grape varieties
come to bear, we will create new and exciting
wines. It is our desire to tempt your palate
and delight your senses with our award-winning
selection of Oklahoma wines.
